BioReCer Standardization Toolkit: Your Guide to Bio-Based Standards and Certifications

Welcome to the Standardization Toolkit from the BioReCer Project! This toolkit is a comprehensive online database designed to support professionals in the bio-based industry.

The standardization toolkit is made of two interactive dashboards:

1) The Standards Dashboard

This first interactive panel is a dataset of 149 national (Italian), European  and international standards (UNI, EN and ISO) relevant to the bio-based sector. Each standard includes details on its scope (e.g., biodegradable plastics, bioeconomy, environmental management), keywords (e.g., biodegradability, recycling, traceability), and is overseen by the technical committees from CENISO, and UNI (e.g., CEN/TC 249 – PlasticsUNI/CT 600/SC 01 – Physical-chemical tests).

Most of these standards are “current”, and they address key areas related to sustainability, such as product userecyclingtraceability systemscircular economy strategies, and data exchange formats. This structured mapping provides a comprehensive overview of essential standards in the bioeconomy and environmental management sectors.

2) The Certification Schemes Dashboard

The second panel provides detailed information about 26 certification schemes, including key schemes such as ISCC, relevant to the bio-based sector. For each certification scheme, you’ll find details on documents, scope (e.g., environmental management, biomass, agriculture), keywords, and status (either “current” or “in progress”).This dashboard offers a structured overview of certifications related to sustainability and traceability, helping professionals navigate and implement the most relevant schemes for their projects.
